Warehouse 13 Wiki

Ulysses S. Grant's Flask is an artifact featured in "Queen For A Day".

Effects[]

Those who drink from the flask begin to seriously believe they are on a battlefield during the Civil War, and act accordingly.[1]

Because it can be presumed that the last person known to have been affected by the flask eventually returned to normal without the flask being neutralized,[2] it can be presumed that its effects eventually subside naturally.

History[]

It was rediscovered at a Civil War reenactment, after an actor used a real bayonet to stab two participant 'soldiers'.[2]

It later came into the possession of a man participating in a reenactment at Shiloh National Military Park, Tennessee. Steve Jinks and Claudia Donovan were sent to collect it, and its current owner had already been affected by it. The affected reenactor attacked Steve and nearly stabbed him with his bayonet before Claudia, in the guise of a Civil War-era woman, distracted and then shot him with her Tesla. They then collected the flask from him.[1]

Real-World Connection[]

Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885) was an American military officer and politician who served as the 18th president of the United States from 1869 to 1877. As commanding general, he led the Union Army to victory in the American Civil War in 1865 and thereafter briefly served as U.S. secretary of war. Later, as president, Grant was an effective civil rights executive who signed the bill that created the Justice Department and worked with Radical Republicans to protect African Americans during Reconstruction.

Grant was an alcoholic, compelled to drink by separation from his family due to his war assignments, which ultimately led to his resignation as commander of Company F, 4th Infantry only a year after being assigned there. In the history after his death, Grant's drinking was often exaggerated by the press and falsely stereotyped by many of his rivals and critics.
