Warehouse 13 Wiki

Godfrid's Spoon is an artifact first featured in "For The Team".

Origin[]

The spoon was forged from the armor of fallen viking warriors. Godfrid Haraldsson was himself a viking prince, who would have his men drink from the spoon before battle to give them strength.[1]

Effects[]

Those who drink from the spoon, or drink/come into contact with any liquid the spoon has made contact with, they will gain muscle mass and strength.

When the spoon's artifact-empowered metal makes contact with amino acids, such as those present in the Boiling Point energy drink, the resulting drink will carry an "amped up" form of the spoon's effects, presumably more intense and dangerous than what the spoon is normally capable of. Such affected liquid is capable of rapidly reducing fat and substantially increasing muscle mass in a short period of time, such as making one Tamalpais University student go from overweight to athletically fit in three weeks.

Consumption of or exposure to substantial amounts of affected "amped up" liquid will also begin increasing the user's internal body temperature, causing intense sweating as they near the lethal threshold. Reaching this threshold (which takes approximately three weeks of consistent consumption, or one-to-two hours if exposed to enough liquid at once) will culminate in painful muscle spasms and aches and, ultimately, spontaneous combustion.

A chemical antidote to the spoon's "amped up" lethality can be concocted without the need for neutralizing the spoon.

History[]

The Spoon was known to and searched for by agents of Warehouse 12.[1]

This artifact was first discovered after a college wrestling team went from being losers to being unstoppable overnight. Also, one of the team's members died in a fire while he was camping; strangely it appears the fire started from inside his sleeping bag. It was later found out that the wrestling team members were acting as test subjects for a new line of energy drinks. The doctor in charge of research at the bottling plant was using the artifact as a kind of steroid for the drink.[1]

As her gift to the rest of the Warehouse crew, Claudia Donovan had t-shirts made displaying the digital shelving screens of the artifacts that nearly killed each agent. She made one for Godfrid's Spoon for herself.[2]

When Pete Lattimer tried to assuage Claudia's fear of monsters by reminding her they don't exist, she retorted by saying she used to also know that there were no such thing as "viking spoons that make people spontaneously combust", until she started working at the Warehouse.[3]

When Claudia complained about always being assigned inventory duty by Arthur Nielsen and wanting to go out on field cases, she reminded him of accompanying Myka to collect the spoon. Artie then reminded her of how she fell into a vat of the spoon's affected Boiling Point drink and almost spontaneously combusted.[4]

Real World Connection[]

The name "Godfrid Haraldsson" may refer to one of two historical figures:

  • Godfrid Haraldsson (circa 820 - 852) was the son of the Danish king Harald Klak, making him a prince. During his life, he led many wars and raids throughout Denmark.
  • Gofraid mac Arailt, also known as Guðrøðr Haraldsson in Old Norse, was thought to have been the son of either Aralt mac Sitric (Harald Sigtryggsson), king of the Norse-Gael city Limerick in Ireland, or of the Viking chief Harald who ruled Bayeux and Normandy; in either case, he would be considered a prince. He also led raids and attacks throughout Wales, Ireland, and Scotland.

Trivia[]

  • The spoon's handle features an image of a sword-wielding Viking warrior (Sigurd) fighting a giant serpent (Fafnir), a common visual motif in Norse art and artifacts.
