When people place items (mainly money) into the jar, they develop increasingly severe symptoms of hypothermia followed by extreme carnivorous cravings and sensitivity to light. As Artie put it, Stage 1: chills and hunger, Stage 2: hypothermia and starvation, Stage 3: death. This artifact is not only a danger to its user(s), but also to other people. The affects of this artifact can make you so hungry that you'll want to eat anything, including your best friend. Pete destroyed the artifact in order not to get eaten by Myka and four construction workers. The pieces are currently in the Warehouse.

In the olden days, people would put money in glass jars like this and bury them in a place that could be found later. This jar was one of the jars that the Donner Party used a kind of time capsule.

History

This artifact first came to the Warehouse's attention after two teenagers in Ithaca, New York were attacked by some kind of animal while alone in the woods at night, the strange part being that after going to the hospital the doctor realized that it wasn't an animal that had attacked them, but another person had tried to literally take a bite out of them. 

Pete and Myka discovered that the artifact was a glass jar imbued with all the pain and suffering of the Donner party. The jar was being used as a tip jar for a local food truck called Manny's Tacos; all the people that were affected by this artifact were all people that had recently ate from Manny's truck and all gave him a tip. Manny told Pete he found the jar buried in the dirt while hiking and he took it home with him as a souvenir.

Real World Connection

The Donner Party was a group of 87 American pioneers who were trapped in the Sierra Nevada mountains in 1846 by a snowstorm. Many of them died from starvation, hypothermia, disease, trauma, and even cannibalism.

• Albert Butz's Glasses can be used to temporarily prevent a user from freezing to death. 
• Mason Jars were invented after the events of the Donner Party.
• This is one of two props (the other being the Birdcage) now housed at the G. H. Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, NY as part of a Movie/Television exhibit.
