This Eclipse is a device featured in "Don't Hate the Player".
Effects[]
When attached to a power source, it deactivates all laser protection connected to or originating from it for 42 minutes and 59 seconds.[1]
History[]
Whether this object is an artifact or an invention, it was most likely created in or after 1972 or 1973, the years Pink Floyd premiered their album The Dark Side of the Moon on tour and released it for sale respectively.[1]
Arthur Nielsen used it to deactivate the security system at an art gallery so he and Steve Jinks could snag Vincent Van Gogh's Stormy Night. However, a leaf created by the painting accidentally fell between the Eclipse and the device it was attached to, causing it to short circuit before Artie and Steve were out.[2]
Real World Connection[]
Pink Floyd is an English rock band formed in London in 1965.
In March of 1973, they released their eight studio album The Dark Side of the Moon under Harvest Records. The record was conceived as a concept album that would focus on the pressures faced by the band during their arduous lifestyle, and partly deal with the apparent mental health problems of former band member Syd Barrett, who departed the group in 1968. The album had been given the provisional title of Dark Side of the Moon (an allusion to lunacy, rather than astronomy). After discovering that title had already been used by another band, it was temporarily changed to Eclipse and was debuted on tour in 1972. After the commercial failure of the other band's album, the title was changed back to the band's original preference by the time it was released for sale the following year.
Trivia[]
- As Artie referred to the device as "an Eclipse", it can be presumed that this is or was one of a multitude of such devices, rather than a singular device.[1]
