Anne Bonny's Cutlass is an artifact featured in Warehouse 13: A Touch of Fever.

Origin[]

TBA

Effects[]

The cutlass is able to "call out" or attract certain people for unclear reasons.[1] When wielded, it can possess a person and warp their mind, making them act like a typical pirate; this includes affecting the way they speak and imparting knowledge of pirate lingo, and skilled usage of the cutlass in fights and traversal (such as using the cutlass to ride down a sail for a safe descent).

The cutlass' primary effect is its incredible destructive power; a single swing of the sword holds the power of fifty at once, capable of reducing anything it strikes to smithereens in an instant. This causes the air around the blade to sound "like it was being churned up by a blender."[2]

History[]

The Warehouse had been looking for the cutlass since 1720 (during the reign of Warehouse 10) when Anne Bonny escaped her execution by pleading with her pregnancy. Afterwards, Anne (as well as her baby and the cutlass) disappeared from history.

By 2011,[3] the cutlass came to reside in in Charleston, South Carolina, kept in the Museum of Piracy's Hall of Infamy in the hands of a wax figure of Anne Bonny. While there, its power attracted museum tour guide Lainie Evers, enticing her to take and wield it (even causing her to act violently and incapacitate a security guard on her way to get the cutlass) despite not having made physical contact with it before.

Arthur Nielsen had learned of its whereabouts and sent Myka Bering and Pete Lattimer to the museum to retrieve it, where they briefly met the friendly Lainie while casing the place. When Pete later investigated the Hall of Infamy and found the cutlass missing, Lainie began singing a sea shanty before lunging at him with the cutlass, destroying a wax figure of Bonny's lover "Calico" Jack Rackham in the process. Pete evaded Lainie's attacks until Myka arrived and incapacitated her with her Tesla. They then neutralized the cutlass in a static bag and took it with them back to Warehouse 13.

At the Warehouse, the cutlass was laid out on the computer desk in the main office. Artie briefly explained the history of the cutlass and the Warehouse's hunt for it. Leena sensed it had a "very violent" aura and suggested it be kept in the Dark Vault, but Artie disagreed as he did not consider it dangerous enough and was concerned about the budget of the Dark Vault's upkeep. He decided to store the cutlass among the main shelves first and see if it would "act up" and require a more secure location later.

  1. "Why do you think the cutlass latched onto her?” “Proximity? Aptitude?” Myka shrugged. “Maybe she just spent too much time around the sword, and eventually it started invading her psyche? You know how it works. Sometimes artifacts can lie dormant for years before the right person-or the wrong one-comes into contact with them. Lainie probably just clicked with the cutlass for some weird metaphysical reason." (Warehouse 13: A Touch of Fever, Chapter 1)
  2. "Whoosh! In a blur of motion, the cutlass appeared to deliver fifty blows with a single swing. The air sounded like it was being churned up by a blender. One minute, Jack Rackham was striking a dashing pose in his brightly colored calico vest, the very picture of a rakish pirate captain; a second later the unlucky statue had been reduced to nothing more than a pile of shredded fabric and wax shavings."
